At a recent industry trade conference, Dan Brummel, owner of Capilia Madison, raised the question of how to educate the public to select their hair loss expert. Although all hair stylists are cosmetologists and/or barbers licensed by the state, there are no specific license requirements for hair loss specialists. It’s buyer beware!
So, here is the top five list that was developed.
Rule #1 – What services are provided?
Seek a hair loss specialist or expert that can offer a full array of services. Solutions that work for one person may not benefit another. Hair loss is caused by so many factors and your individual situation and lifestyle must be taken into consideration. Don’t get pigeon-holed into a solution because that’s the only service that is provided.
Rule #2 – What products are being offered?
It’s important to maintain good health. Good hair starts with a healthy scalp. At Capilia Madison we offer holistic scalp and hair products that are plant-based.
I love that I look younger and have more confidence. The hair I have is better than my original hair. I love my look. I don’t feel old, so why look old. If you have the money to spend and you are losing hair, there is no reason to not at least try hair restoration – see if you like it.”

Rule #3 – Are they certified Trichologists?
Trichology is the science of the scalp and hair follicles. It’s important that your hair loss specialist understands how to maintain your scalp’s health, regardless of what product or service you seek. For those seeking surgical hair restoration, the odds for successful follicular transplant greatly enhance when the scalp and hair follicle are also treated. For those seeking hair replacement, wigs or hair extensions, a clean, healthy scalp and condition of your existing hair is essential.
Capilia Madison’s Head First program is designed to provide the highest level of expertise for our clients. Capilia Madison is the only hair loss studio in Wisconsin offering a full-service trichology program.
Rule #4 – What is the hair loss studio’s reputation?
Not only do Capilia Madison clients love and respect Dan Brummel, but he is also well-known throughout the international hair loss industry. In 2014, On Rite Corporation recognized Dan as one of the top five success stories having started as a barber in the Navy, operated a small hairstyling salon in Watertown, and in the mid-1990s moved to Madison to open the region’s largest and most successful hair loss studio.
In 2014, the Winner’s Circle, joined the international organization based in Canada, Capilia, and became the first Capilia affiliate in the US. Now there are over 50 US studios associated with Capilia. For those living in the Madison, WI, area, why travel to Chicago, NYC or Los Angeles for a top hair loss specialist . . .you just need to drive down the street to Capilia Madison.
Rule # 5 – How much are you paying?
It’s reported that Jennifer Anniston spends more than $8,000 a month, $96,000 annually, on health and beauty products and services. The average American woman spends between $15,000 to $20,000. Regardless of what you are willing to spend on hair loss products and services, it’s important that you are not gouged!
While all businesses are in it for a profit, Dan’s philosophy is to offer exceptional service and products at a moderate price. There’s some solution for almost any level budget.
